Korčula is also famous for a few traditional, folklore dances like Moreška in Korčula, or Dance of battle performed by the “Kumpanija” of Blato, or some other – because every town has its own Kumpanija – centre for tradition preservation. Each performance is a special unforgettable experience. The most festive, complete performance of the Dance of battle takes place in Blato on the 28th of April – the day dedicated to St. Vicence, the town guardian. In Blato, one should also visit the ethno collection “Barilo”.
These are just some recommendations as there is really plenty to explore. It is not pure coincidence that settlement on the island dates all the way back to prehistoric times, while numerous archeological sites and museum collections also testify the presence of ancient Greeks, Romans and Illyrians on the island as well.
